The researchers are very close to finding out the secret behind the galaxies evolution. It was a mystery for a long period of time, but now, thanks to some thorough studies, we have more chances to get some answers. Keep reading if you want to find out more details.
Who coordinated the study?
A group of scientists from University of Arizona conducted a study which had as the main goal to find out how the galaxies are born and how they evolve over time.
The new approach. What method did they use?
The new approach is called the “UniverseMachine” and we’ll tell you all about it. The team used supercomputer simulations in order to answear the questions. The scientists created on the computer the exact replicas of different universes and they were able to recreate the entire cosmos. The galaxies created on the computer were compared with the real ones by using some tests.
The results of the study were published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
Another important thing that was under the observation is how dark matter influences galaxy formation. It has a big role in our process because it heats up the galaxy’s surroundings after taking away the cold gas from there.
Also, the team had to take in consideration the theories of galaxy formation which are currently circulating before they created the galaxies on the computer. They wanted to check all the possible options. One of the theories was based on the fact that the galaxies might stop forming stars earlier.
According to one of the scientists who worked on the study, the computer simulation was not limiting at all because it allowed them to implement their new and complex approach. There were a lot of computer operations and advanced technology involved in order to achieve their goal.
