Neil deGrasse Tyson says that asteroids that are potential City Destroyers slip through NASA defenses

Recently it was discovered that a huge asteroid with a size similar to the one that wiped out the dinosaurs was flying towards Earth and it was labeled potentially hazardous.

Neil deGrasse Tyson believes that large space rocks like the 1990 mu which was approximated at about 5 miles in diameter should not phase us.

Actual threats

The scientist believes that we should actually be concerned about smaller asteroids which can sneak under the radar unnoticed.

Dr. Tyson was a guest on The Joe Rogan podcast last year and he explained how it is easy to protect against threats we can easily see.

He stated: “It’s all about how much time we have, what you want to do is go out and nudge it.

“You just have to give it a sideways velocity relative to its path towards Earth.”

“If you do that early enough it will miss Earth, but it’s still out there to harm you at another day.”

The scientist says that City killing asteroids usually slip under the radar but they tend to land in the ocean and the probability of a collision with a city is little.

Preparing for a threat

Tyson claims that the United States government is already working on preventing such an attack. He says that there is a branch of government part of Homeland Security which is concerned about Devastation to a region where the grid is taken out.
